Happy Birthday to my Grandpa

Today would be Grandpa's 89th birthday if he was still with  us. Here is one of my favorite singers performing one of his favorite songs. I think it's simply beautiful! I cried through the whole song the night I watched it on TV, and couldn't stop thinking about Grandpa and his passion for music and God.

Day 15 - A picture of something you want to do before you die.

A picture of something you want to do before you die.

I want to be a mom. I want to experience pregnancy.I want to share that moment with my husband when we hear our baby cry for the first time.

Day 14 - A picture of someone you could never imagine your life without.

A picture of someone you could never imagine your life without.

The obvious answer is that I cannot imagine my life without Cameron, but in all honesty, I can't imagine it without my entire family!

Day 13 - A picture of your favorite band or artist.

Day 13 - A picture of your favorite band or artist.

I have loved DMB for quite some time now, and finally got to see him in concert last summer.... Amazing!

It's hard to narrow down favorites bands/artists, but I'll name a few more:
Sugarland, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Carrie Underwood, Ray Charles, Journey, Allison Kraus, Vince Gill, The Beatles, Casting Crowns..... Is that not an eclectic bunch?!?

Finally official enough to announce.....

no, we're not having a baby---     but we DID buy our first home!  So maybe it's not huge news to anyone else, but it's HUGE to us! (Yes---We've kept this pretty quiet because we were afraid of anything that could happen to take it away from us, and of course, the less people you tell your news to, the easier when something bad happens.....) We are so ready to get out of our apartment where we use all of our old college stuff and hand me downs, as well as basically living only in our bedroom...  We got so many awesome wedding gifts, but there were put in storage until we got a house... so now we can finally break them out of their boxes! We are so excited... can you tell?!?!

On top of just "buying a house"..... we bought the PERFECT house! Not to sound like I'm bragging, but it is so perfect for us. It's 3 bedrooms, 1 bath (with all the hookups in the basement for us to add another right away). Basically everything in the house is new within the last 7 years, including roof, furnace, washer & dryer, counter tops and sink, jetted bathtub, carpet, etc. It has a living room in the front of the house, as well as a large dining and family room added in the back of the house which will be perfect for us to entertain. It has a covered carport with shed space as well as a backyard and patio. Everything is so perfect that the only thing we want to change is the color of the walls and maybe add some more landscaping for color  :)

It has had one owner and one owner only since it was built 44 years ago, so we know the home's complete history. That one owner happens to be a family friend for Cam, so the process of buying this home is so meaningful and we are so happy to take possession of such a beautiful and well-kept home.

We signed all the papers this morning and have the keys.
We hope to move in very soon!

I'll post interior pictures soon, and of course be looking forward to photos of the painting and the moving in process!!!

A picture of the person you do the craziest things with.

Katie and I never got wild..... but we definitely did some crazy and funny things during summer high school summers....And by crazy, I don't mean that we drank, smoke or did drugs together... That was nothing of the sort... Just some funny and silly things that were harmless!

Day 8- A picture that makes you laugh.

Vacation in Chicago with the statues

Delivering this piece of equipment... oh, this night was funny..

Paying in change....

Any time that I get with one of my friends, it's hilarious. These are just a few pictures I had of us on my computer that remind me of funny days, so these pictures make me laugh. I'm sure you're all thinking that these pictures aren't funny, but the memories that go with them sure are!

Day 7-A picture of your most treasured item.

A picture of your most treasured item.

Without any doubt.... My beautiful rings and Cameron's band are my most prized possessions.... I look at them and touch them every day! Not only are they beautiful, but the meaning they bring with them is worth more than anything else. It symbolizes the love between us--- as husband and wife and the relationship we've built on what really matters between two people. I wear these rings with pride, knowing that we have honesty, trust, commitment, and respect as the foundation to our marriage.

Day 06 - A picture of a person you’d love to trade places with for a day.

A picture of a person you’d love to trade places with for a day.

After about a week of thinking on this one.... I finally made a decision. I'm not sure it's the 'best decision,' but I finally made one. I went through my options of being a musician, cook, rich business owner, Oprah, etc..... but nothing seemed right.... So...It may sound really corny, but I would trade places with Carrie Bradshaw for a day. I know, I know... she's not a "real person" but I just love her freedom of fashion, personality, wittiness, and especially her outlook on life and love. She always has the best way to say what you've been thinking...
“Do we need distance to get close?”

“When men attempt bold gestures, generally it's considered romantic. When women do it, it's often considered desperate or psycho.”

“When it comes to life and love, why do we believe our worst reviews?”

“I like my money right where I can see it... hanging in my closet.”

“Maybe men and women aren't from different planets as pop culture would have us believe. Maybe we live a lot closer to each other. Perhaps, dare I even say it, in the same zip code.”

“Every once in awhile, a girl has to indulge herself.”

Day 5- A picture of your favorite memory.

A picture of your favorite memory.

I miss my grandpa every day.....

From the day my mom went back to work after her maternity leave from having me until the about the age of 16, I spent every day after school, all day every day during the summers, Sunday evenings for dinner and many Saturdays at my grandparents' house. When my grandpa was diagnosed when I was in 6th grade with lung cancer, I didn't want to believe the predicted outcome. I lost one of the most important men and people in my life just a year and a half later and I miss him every day.

I remember running from their house over to his workshop and watching him tinker around on projects or things to fix. He taught me to ride a bicycle without training wheels on the street in front of their house. He fixed countless broken toys, slipped bicycle chains, flat tires, and so on. He made the best eggs and bacon breakfasts you've ever had. He always gave me the last sip of his decaf coffee with creamer, and to this day, that's the only part of a cup of coffee that I like. He always had a silver Cross pen in his front shirt pocket (and we used an identical one for our wedding guest book). He took so much time to include me in tasks around the house like loading coal, mowing the yard, and digging potatoes. He called me Shnickemfritz, and one day I told my grandma that he called me 'Chicken....' well, you know what rhymes. He had the best song that he always whistled while he came down the stairs from getting ready, but I have no idea what it was. He always stopped what he was doing for the noon and evening news, and always wrote down the stock market quotes. He always made sure that there were snacks for the grand kids, and usually it was Snickers.
He loved his family, his music, and his religion. He was such a role model to me. Days with him are some of my favorite memories...

Day 4- A picture of your best night.

A picture of your best night.

Okay... so I'll go with the obvious one first... My wedding night!  I married my best friend and took the next step in our relationship that was long awaited. It was one of the best decisions I made and I am so glad that I waited.... This pic is of us headed home after our reception. Even though I felt completely horrible from heat exhaustion, heartburn and lack of food in my system, I had an amazing evening and night.

Now for the less obvious favorite night....

Valentine's Day..... Every year, Cameron does a great job of making it perfect :) He is so thoughtful and does an exceptional job of gift giving and always picks the best cards!

Day 3-A picture of the cast from your favorite show

A picture of the cast from your favorite show.

Some may never guess this, but I love the show "Sex and the City." I can relate to so many ideas and opinions, but at the same time, I am so happy that I'm not living a life like theirs--- single, in the city, having carefree and irresponsible relationships with strangers. I have never had a "wild side" like these girls, and I am thankful for that, but I envy "Carrie Bradshaw" for her thinking and "Charlotte York" for her fashion and traditionalism.

Day 2- A picture of you and the person you have been closest with the longest.

A picture of you and the person you have been closest with the longest....

Cameron is definitely the person that I can tell anything to and feel the closest to in my entire life.... We've known each other 5 years and he is my best friend :) We went through more turmoil and emotional roller coasters in the first few years of our relationship than many realize, but it all made us stronger. I have never felt so close to anyone else and I focus every day on making him happy.

Day 1 - Picture and ten facts

This picture is from our honeymoon... I love my long hair, my side bangs and my tan...but especially the fact that I was eating one of my first meals with my 'husband'... It was one of the best days of my life! :)

Fact #1: I look through every bin of records that I see at flea markets, yard sales, discount stores, etc. hoping to stumble upon a Beatles album and get it for a steal....

Fact #2: I party plan constantly in my head and would LOVE to do it professionally...I live for the details!

Fact #3: I've known since second grade that I wanted to be a teacher and never really considered much else.... One of the biggest inspirations of teaching wasn't from a classroom teacher, but from my dad. He has spent his life being the best teacher to his 3 children that he possibly could be and is passionate about explaining things to make us understand :) He's an inspiration as a teacher and as a future parent.

Fact #4: I am very old fashioned. I believe in respect and manners, I 'waited' for my wedding night, I don't really believe in everything going digital, I don't like most modern music, I don't believe in "playing house," family comes first for me, etc.

Fact #5: I have a perfume allergy and get horrible headaches from most lotions, perfumes, air fresheners, etc.

Fact #6: I dream about my teeth coming loose or falling out multiple nights a week.

Fact #7: Poor grammar and language are pet peeves and I correct it in my head! It takes a lot of will power to keep my corrections quiet :)

Fact #8: I'm a list maker.... I make lists for everything and have a hard time getting things done if they're not on a to-do list. I write so many things down just to keep it organized.

Fact #9: I count stairs in sets of 8, like dance steps.

Fact #10: I have "old lady" hands....My hands don't look like they belong to a 20-something year old. They are veiny and not very attractive.
