Favorite thing for the flu

When Cam came down with the flu, I of course went to the store to stock up on all the things we need to help fight it and make him feel better.... Cam had expressed his hate of the fever and the feeling of the throbbing head..... so when I saw these in the kid's flu section, I picked them up. They're $4 for a box of 4, and yes.... he even got the Disney version!! haha

They are good for up to 8 hours and Cam says the relief is worth the $1! haha

Remove yourself from Spokeo.com

There's a site called spokeo.com that's a new online USA phone book w/personal information: everything from pics you've posted on FB or web, approx credit score, pics of your home, income, age, etc. Remove yourself by searching your name, find the page for yourself, copy the URL and then go to the bottom of the page and click on the Privacy link to remove yourself. You then paste the URL, enter an email and privacy code. Then check your email from Spokeo and click the link to remove yourself.

I saw the above as a facebook status, checked it and found myself! It had my phone number, picture of where my parents live, all my immediate family and their information, as well as more that could be viewed if a $3 was paid! Needless to say I was a little freaked out and removed myself immediately! I want to pass along the information in case you wish to also!

New Year.... New You

We are 18 days into the new year and I'm already thankful for positive changes....

Cameron had an appointment with the spine specialist two weeks ago, and it was the best doctor's appointment we've had in 5 years. The doctor came in, introduced himself, told what he found to be wrong with Cam and then went on to explain that he has been through the same thing. Never  in all of Cam's procedures and appointments has a doctor been able to say that, so we felt relieved immediately. Also, never has a doctor been so quick to detect, diagnosis and plan a remedy. Usually we hear, "Well, we're not quite sure what is causing it. We're going to give orders for blah blah blah." This was so quick and easy! We weren't in the doctor's office 10 minutes. He did diagnose Cam with a ruptured disk in his neck that may require surgery, but they're going to try another route of remedy first.

Also, we feel like we might be getting close with a lead on a house, but nothing is confirmed yet, and we're not sharing details until we know more.  Hopefully, I can share details VERY soon, but we are so excited!!

My grandma had sinus surgery the same day as Cam's appointment, and the drainage from surgery has been causing her some problems, including pneumonia, so she's been in the hospital for a couple of days, and we are hoping for a full recovery soon. She may have to go to a nursing home again temporarily, but it is worth it to get her healthy again! We want her back home!

Karter is becoming funnier and funnier. He is mimicking words left and right and saying new things in what seems like every hour. Most recently, he mimicked his mom saying "facebook!" haha He calls me "Ditta" and Cam is "Day." He loves playing with farm animals toys, cars, and trains---- or moos, git gits, bawk bawks, vroom vrooms, and choo choo twains. We're working on using the real names of things, but it comes and goes. He is so friendly and it seems like his personality draws even the most random strangers in to talk to him! And he loves it!!

I have also started the GetFit2011 Challenge and I'm really happy that I did! It is making me accountable for what I'm doing and not just saying "I'm going to start working out next week." I'm actually doing it, loving it, and excited about starting to teach it! :) I am even looking into getting certified, but nothing is official on that yet either.

I hope this blog finds you and your family healthy, happy and loved. Until next time....

Your challenge, if you choose to accept...

Hey Everyone!!! I've been doing my challenge for a week now and I am so happy that I'm doing it!! I can feel a difference in my arms (triceps especially), thighs and stomach from all the yoga I've been doing..... and I'm loving it!

Here's a link to my progress. GetFit2011

I really recommend yoga for anyone looking for a low impact workout, like I was after a pulled muscle.

Get Fit 2011

Our school nurse at work has created and promoted a challenge for all school employees and I've decided to become a part of it. It starts today, January 10 and lasts through Sunday, March 6. We had to set 5 goals for ourselves that are SMART:
S-Specific-
M-Measurable
A-Achievable
R-Relevant
T-Trackable

I've been wanting to get more serious about my lifestyle and make some changes for the better, but after cleaning out my closet and finding many clothes that now fit horribly, I knew that I had to do something...... and something serious... Our challenge at work seemed to be just that.

The challenge makes us accountable by tracking and taking notes of how we're doing on our goals, but it's only accountable to us for now.... and I need more than that, so that's why I'm doing this blog: to make me accountable to you....

Here are my goals:

I will drink 24 more ounces of water each day.
I will bring my lunch 3 days a week.
I will do one 10 minute workout 3 mornings a week.
I will do one 30 minute workout 3 evenings a week.
I will avoid sweet tea except at meal time 7 days a week.

Extra:
I will cook dinner 2 evenings a week.
I will finally organize and begin my after school fitness program at work.

I will be checking in at least once a week to update how my progress it going...

A little about me...

1. What three words would you use to describe 2010?
Exciting, expensive (haha) and stressful

2. If fear were not an issue what is something you'd like to try?
sky diving?? bungee jumping??

3. What do you add to your coffee or tea?
I don't drink coffee and my tea has to be sweet.

4. What historical sporting event would you like to witness?
Secretariat winning the Triple Crown.... there's just something about the hats and dresses at the derby...

5. What is one piece of advice you would like to give your sixteen year old self?
Work harder in school to earn scholarships..... Those school loans you'll be sitting on a few years are scary... Also, be more laid back and not so responsible....

6. Are you a planner or do you prefer to fly by the seat of your pants?
Planner...Planner...Planner... I like to think through my options to make the best choices...

7. What is one thing you are looking forward to in 2011?
Hopefully, buying our own HOME and moving out of this cramped apartment!

8. Insert your own random thought here.
California Pizza Kitchen should come closer to our home......it's delicious....

Grateful

I received this an email, but after reading a friend's blog, I thought it might be worth posting this as an inspiration to better thinking for the new year.

Some of these don't apply to me, but they might apply to you....
