Excuse the Mess....

I'm sure you've all seen these signs for the home about excusing the mess because the children are making memories or because we actually live in our home.... Well, I would definitely need the latter of the two.... but wouldn't it be a great idea if you could put one on your front door (or maybe even in the front yard! haha) that says:

OR

OR

I'm not the graphic designer in the family... my sister is, so please don't look too closely at my design. I didn't measure anything ;)

I've really been thinking about this more and more as the trick-or-treat time got closer and closer and my not-at-all-completed-but-too-far-into-it-to-quit board and batten wall in my front room still stands as a jumbled mess, right where trick or treaters will look when we open the door....it just stares me down every day, taunting and whispering, "you've not finished me... and I'm the first thing people see at your house...." I just want to print one of my new creations up there and hang on the wall like caution tape, warning of the mess and excusing my tardiness in completion...
Restaurants and stores can do it when they are remodeling, why can't I???

I think your Pinterest membership should come with some stickers or wall hangings (as if we PAY for membership! ha) that can be placed throughout your property and belongings because chances are..... you ARE going to (at some point) say or think... "Well, I saw on Pinterest where someone took a (insert any item) and made a (insert the name of something that you are just going to have to try to make)." And then you're going to pick up said items and attempt said project.... and chances are, it's not going to go well and you're going to ditch the project halfway through, unsure of how to fix it....

OR.... you're going to buy lumber to make/hang/fix/create/enhance said project and it's going to sit against a wall in your living room for weeks while you try to decide whether to continue with the project....
I am not speaking from experience at all ;) haha

So... don't be surprised if you see this sign at my house sometime! I really wish this was socially acceptable as an excuse for the disaster that I call home :) I still have four rooms that have unfinished projects!

Until Next Time...

For the love of burlap!

I have this odd, strange obsession with burlap.... I don't have much of it in my home, but I'm always checking it out in the stores/flea markets/craft booths/etc.... The smell reminds of of summers at the fair and riding the giant slide non-stop (when you had to ride down on the burlap sack).... Anyway, I posted last week about this new product at Wal-Mart. You can read about it HERE. I've also seen where they are selling burlap covered canvas for artwork... How stinkin' cool is that!  I don't know why I love it so much but it's just so pretty.... simple and kinda ugly plain...but still pretty. Weird, I know. I can't explain why I like it to much....but I don't think I'm the only one... Here are a ton of pins that I have for burlap:

Now... some of these I wouldn't care for in my own home.... The smell of burlap brings back memories, but that doesn't mean that I want to cuddle with it on my bed or couch.... I would probably switch for a muslin if I were to make curtain or pillowcases for inside...

With that being said, aren't some of those ideas genious!  And when you're done reading, you should check out all these amazing Burlap things at Hobby Lobby....Ok... I'll stop now so you can go check it out........ Here's a suggestion-- if it's not currently on sale, then print off one of their 40% off coupons!!! Isn't Hobby Lobby the best!!! (I have no connection with the store... I just love it and want to share my findings!)

Just call me Martha...

Hey everyone... I've been home since Thursday after getting my wisdom teeth removed. Yes... I'm still home. I was supposed to return back to work today, but my cheeks are still so swollen that I'm lucky to close my mouth (rubbing my lips together is almost impossible.) I had one very impacted tooth. If I remember correctly at the consultation (five months ago??) that one tooth was buried and growing sideways and outward under my back molars. That side of my face still looks like I'm a squirrel stocking up for winter.... It's very attractive. More to come about the whole process later.

Anyway... Since I've been home, I've watched a ton of movies, pinned a ka-trillion more things, and eaten more applesauce than I care to remember.... Oh, and torn down a wall, moved cabinets in my kitchen, designed a new bar in our kitchen, sewn a baby quilt, planned a party, repainted our bedroom, bought a new bedspread, revamped my makeup supply, cooked amazing meals, bought a whole new wardrobe, designed a million baby headbands, built a TV stand, coffee table and two side tables.....AND--- redesigned our backyard to include a fire pit, gazebo and garden..... Okay, Okay, Okay.... so maybe the first three things were the reality, but I really have done all the rest---- in my head, on paper and via Pinterest :)

I'm bored out of my mind!!! Actually.....I don't know what is so different--- I love planning, designing and creating..... so, maybe it's just the fact that I can't eat what I want to?!?! hahahahaha. Well, that, and I can't go for a run or exercise just yet....I'm bored! I'm uncomfortable. I'm hungry for real food!!!   I'm trying not to complain because things could be so much worse, but it's so tempting because I don't hurt in any way really...... but I just can't do things like normal....

Here's one thing that I've accomplished....

I've decided that I want to repaint our bedroom... I know... we've only lived here (less than) two years.... but you learn things through time. I've learned: I really do not like our yellow bedroom. We have so much natural light that there are times one of us goes back to our bedroom because we think we left the ceiling light on... Plus, Cameron picked a very bright/tropical bedspread from many that I narrowed it down to 3 years ago, so when paired with the walls, I feel as though we live in Florida year round... We've enjoyed it for three years.... but I'd really like a change soon.... And--- we hate sleeping under this big comforter... It's usually in a big pile at the end of the bed...but for a while, Cam slept on top of it on his side... so now the bedspread needs dry cleaned and when I called, I was told that the starting price was $35.... I'd really just like to put that money into a newer one to match a new paint color...right? :)

Tell me if I'm crazy to put a color like one of these in our tiny bedroom (with tan carpet and all oak trim/furniture)...

I want to keep some of the green accents in the bedroom for Cam (he loves lime green) so I think #1&#3 show that they pair together well.... I think #4 might be too light for me. I like things a bit more bold.

I'm really loving all white/neutral bedding right now... well, I always have really... Target has some great all white sets with some pattern in them..... So... Give me feedback... What do you think??? Is the blue too much? Will I regret getting rid of my cheery Floridian room??

Until Next Time...

I love Hallmark

I was in Hallmark last week...killing time.
Found these adorable things...
(I used the camera on my phone without a flash, so they aren't good quality. I was trying not to draw attention to the 'crazy lady in aisle 9' taking pictures of merchandise... hello! shoplifter on our hands!)

Sent this to my girlfriends...

Would this not look AWESOME near a guest book!?!? Wish I would have had it : (

All the Disney stuff would have been perfect for our wedding. I love Disney princess movies!
(Belle is my favorite.)
Disney just does something to warm my heart.
The way they words things is just perfect.

Wouldn't the The Wizard of Oz stuff be perfect as housewarming gifts!?
I'll have to remember that for the future...
(Cam and I have a love for TWoO. We were both in the musical our senior years. I guess we're partial.)

Just thought I'd share my adorable findings....

Oh, and here's a funny for ya. Picked this up on clearance on Cato and carried it around.
Tried it on and laughed out loud.
This is why you try things on before you buy them!

Do I not look huge!??!
I thought a cute little leopard cover-up would be great for work...
ummm.... this is not attractive in ANY manner. This got put back on the rack immediately.
SCARY!

Have a good Saturday!
Until Next Time...

Oh, How Pinteresting... Nov 14

Link Up!

*****Unfortunately, due to a new format, previous pins will no longer appear*****

So Many Trees... So little time!

Trees and garlands, ornaments and lights, branches and sparkle, burlap and ribbon..... It's all consuming my brain! I just love decorating my trees (yes, there are multiple).... I always made fun of the people that put up multiple trees...... and now I'm one of them! ha   I'm not crazy and do one in every room or anything, but I love the holidays and want my home to burst at the seams with the festivities. It's such an amazing time of the year!!!

Ok... So it's probably no lie that my "Holiday" board is starting to burst at the seams with tree ideas as well!

Check back next week for the pins for smaller mantle trees! And the next week for ornament ideas!

This is such a neat idea for a rustic/vintage tree... or a tree at a wedding/anniversary/birthday party

I think the whole country is crushin' on this deco mesh, right?!?!

Ok... a bit cheesy, but pretty dang clever!

THIS VIDEO IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE PINS EVER!!! It made me look at tree decorating in a whole new way!

Cute!

Ok.. I could never do this in my house, but it is clever!

Happy Tree Trimming!
Until Next Time..

Easy Decorating Project for my Kitchen

Since we moved in well over a year ago, I've been planning a project for my kitchen. I wanted to frame my family's recipes. They're not 'secret' recipes, just special recipes. I bought the frames and then they just sat in a bag for the next year....partially because my grandma's recipe box was tucked away in storage. Well, I finally got fired up one night and dug deep enough to get to the recipes and sorted out about 10 that I wanted... I narrowed them down and photocopied the ones that I wanted. The photocopies turned out perfect!

I hung 4 of them above the doorway from Kitchen to Living Room and the other one above our light switches by the door.

The stains and worn marks even copied on all of them. I love that!

This is my grandma's favorite recipe. It's a bread recipe
and she even wrote "This is my Favorite Bread Recipe" on the card!
She says she was asked for the recipe each time that she made it.
I love that I have such special decorations in my kitchen. I'm looking for something to go in between or above the frames to finish it off. It just looks 'incomplete.'

To hang them, I did the "pinterest" trick of tracing the frames on paper to find the desired spacing and position. It worked well! Because the frames all so close to the door, I was afraid of them falling crooked, or just falling off completely, so after I hung and leveled them, we put heavy grade sticky tack on the top corners of each one.

Total price of the project: $15 for the 5 frames (already owned the sticky tack, scrapbook paper and nails)

Until Next Time...

Fall is in the air...

It's official... It's September. Labor Day has come and gone. Temperatures will start to drop soon. Festivals and craft shows are being added to our weekend plans..... Around my house, that means my fall decor has started making its appearance...including a new blog template!

We are having a birthday party in our home for my mother-in-law in less than 4 weeks, so I didn't want to put up all my fall decor in the living room just to take it down and put it back up again... so I'm decorating in other parts of the house and putting up shabby chic decor in our living room right now.

I couldn't wait for September 1st to come so I could start hauling my totes up from the basement. I know some people think I'm crazy to start even THAT early, but my inner DIY goddess and decorator wanted to starts weeks ago and I promised myself I would wait until the first of the month. I just love fall.... the colors, the smells, the chill in the air. It's my favorite!!!

In the middle of creating a new fall wreath for the front door.

Voila.
Grapevine wreath from Wal-Mart $3
Ribbon found on clearance for $0.25
Leaves from the Dollar Tree  $1
The plaque is from a festival last year for $4

Bushel basket bought last year for $3
(Basket is filled with two old cabinet doors to weight it down and packing to take up space)
Burlap bought on sale for ~$1.50
3 pumpkins from the Dollar Tree $3
Leaves from the Dollar Tree $1
Ribbon on clearance $0.25
Small wreath found in my parents' basement with a tag of $.88 (purchased probably 20 years ago)
Don't you just L.O.V.E the oranges and reds against the teal door?!?!?   O.M.G... LOVE!
More pics to come as the totes get emptied and the fall colors spread throughout my house!!

Edited to add: I did my first ever Linky Party thingy with this post over at Sand and Sisal. I'm pretty excited about it!! You know that I love fall and am excited to share and show my fall decor!

Until next time...

Keeping things simple.... In the kitchen

I hate cluttered cabinets...hate them! When we got our new house, I promised myself that I would keep the kitchen 'clutter-free.' It's not always clean and tidy.... we have mail layin' around and such, but I try to keep the 'kitchen stuff' limited.

I got this Vera tin when Cam got me an apron as a gift a while back. I use it keep my pretty dish rags in (that I oxi-clean to keep bright!). I love having a clean dish rag within an arm's reach. I added an extra lemon from the vase I have on display. I think it adds a sweet little touch.

The things we use most often. These sit on a ledge above my sink. (yes, my ring was off. I had been painting when I took these pics)

Double spoon rest--- LOVE IT... and all black utensils sit on my counter...

so that people don't see the chaos of THIS... a mismatch of colors, styles and quality

leftover containers are organized in $1 plastic bins. Each bin has a variety of sizes and shapes,
but should have both the lid and container, so that it's easy to find.

My toaster doesn't sit out. It's right inside the door and only comes out when it needs to be out. I've read that there should be no more than 3 appliance on the counter at one time, including a microwave. We only keep two out. Our microwave has it's own little counter area, and then we keep the coffee maker for Cam in another corner. I like to keep my countertops clear of eye sores.

How do you simplify your kitchen? Any space saving tips or tricks? Any suggestions?
